This
compilation of prose and poetry illuminates
my effort to survive in an uncertain and
often violent environment.
Each
poem tells its own story and stands on its own merit. The reader can follow my
path to establish a meaning to my suffering
and a legitimate
right to earn my place in society. You will be a witness to horrific pain, mental anguish, profound
fear, degradation and
shame. You will observe my internal conflicts
and my process of introspection
as I struggle to gain an understanding of my personal beliefs and begin to
develop moral courage.
Whether
you have lived a similar existence, have a loved one who has, or work in a
profession of helping others, there are lessons to be learned within. These
poems translate the pain of a harsh reality into separate concrete building
blocks for a strong foundation.
My ultimate goal is inspiring others
through my words and experience of overcoming adversity with dignity and
courage. This book is my attempt
to make a difference.
My hope is
that I have succeeded.
